Design
How does the saying go; “Be sure what you ask for because that is what you’ll get”. The most important aspect of design work is covering all design requirements at the onset. It is surprisingly easy to overlook details while being focused on the major aspects of the job. Discussing and exhaustively listing all aspects with the client from all angles helps to avoid this. Having said that, it’s also part of the process to alter, add or remove sections at the prototype stage once it has been evaluated. A typical sequence is as follows;
Nail down the design idea and how it should work with the client.
Design the schematic layout.
Make a rough one-of working unit.
Test this with the clients input.
Modify, adjust and produce a prototype unit including component changes based on cost, performance and availability. At this stage there will be something close to the final product. Produce a bill of materials and estimate production cost.
If the prototype needs no change, then the process goes to manufacture.
Final artwork for circuit board production.
Circuit board artwork (CAD drawings) comes in two flavours, either Through-hole or surface mount construction.
Surface mount suits mass runs in the order of 150 units or more. Components are fitted by machine incurring higher setup costs to program and test the pick and place machine that does this. Components are purchased in large numbers on reels.
Through-hole construction suits runs of 5 to 150. Components are fitted by hand by companies that specialize in this.
Our artwork files are industrial standard and can be produced through any PCB manufacturing house.
